Is that carpet dripping? It just might be! “Fuel” is one of Faig Ahmed’s latest creations in his exhibition “Source Code” @saparcontemporary. The installation references how oil belongs to a region that is “responsible for both renaissance and destruction.” Ahmed, once a student of ancient languages, is interested in the language of carpets as a means of visual communication, writing, art, design, and even science. He believes that the carpets’ patterns hold a visual language that have been communicated through generations of cultures up until the digital age. He is interested in how language and perception constantly change. He wants to see how he can transform our perception of these objects if he visually transforms them into the unexpected.
